Student Video Wins Grant for French-Louisiana Poet Anthology

SHREVEPORT, La.— A video submitted by three present and two former Centenary students has won a grant in the amount of $5,000 from the Centre de la Francophonie des Ameriques for the best student project.

Charles Eddy, Elizabeth Lyles, Leah Sayad, Carrie Lombardino '06 and et Britt Pitre '02, submitted their original video and competed against entries from across Canada, the U.S., Central and South America, and the Caribbean.

The students represented a group of thirty Centenary students who have worked for five years on an anthology of Franco-Louisiana poetry that will be printed and distributed for free to every high school in Louisiana. The grant will be used to publish the anthology, as well as hire an editor and pay for printing of the materials.

The other winners are in Kuujjuaq, Quebec; Vancouver, British Columbia; Mexico City: Orono, Maine; Les Abymes, Guadeloupe; and Ottawa, Ontario.

The Center of the Francophonie des Ameriques contributes to the promotion and development of a future French carrier for the French language in the context of cultural diversity by focusing on strengthening and enhancing relationships, and on complementary action between Francophones and Francophiles from Quebec, Canada and the Americas.
