Hurley School of Music Announces Faculty Voice Recital May 7

SHREVEPORT, La.— Soprano Gale Odom will give a faculty recital at Centenary College on Thursday, May 7, 2009 beginning 7:30 p.m. in the Anderson Auditorium of the Hurley School of Music. The program will include songs by Purcell, Rachmaninoff, Chausson and Strauss.

Gale Odom holds an M.M. from Indiana University and the B.M. and D.M.A. degrees from the University of North Texas, where she was a student of Virginia Botkin. She has taught at Centenary College since 1978. In 1994, she was named Centenary's Outstanding Teacher, and in 1998, she became Dean of the Hurley School of Music there.

A former national finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Awards and a regional winner of the Federation of Music Clubs Young Artist Award, Dr. Odom has performed over 30 opera roles, including Marie in Daughter of the Regiment, Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, Micäela in Carmen and Hanna in The Merry Widow.

Pianist Gay Grosz will accompany the concert. Gay Grosz holds a B.A. degree from Centenary College and M.M. and D.M.A. degrees in Piano Performance from Louisiana State University. She is on the faculty of Centenary College, where she is Collaborative Artist in Residence. Winner of the Ronald Brothers Award in Accompanying from the Southern Region of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Ms. Grosz is a member of the Evangeline Trio.
