College Announces Winners of 18th Annual Student Research Forum

SHREVEPORT, La. — Twelve students received first through third place awards in four divisions during the 18th Annual Student Research Forum held at Centenary College of Louisiana April 24, with all students receiving cash awards. Divisional winners for oral/research project or presentation are:

Poster Session

First place— Deanna Apple '08 and Marco Rajo, a neuroscience major from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, for PKM. in the Suprachiasmatic Nuclei
Second place—Andy Osborn, a neuroscience major from Ponchatoula, La., for Employing Azaferrocene Catalysts in the Ketene-Claisen Condensation of Beta-Ketoesters
Third place—Jordon Day, a biology major from Shreveport, La., for Investigation of a conserved tyrosine residue in a yeast casein kinase 1 protein kinase

Natural Sciences

First place—Ashley Rawson, a chemistry major from Pineville, La., for Attempted synthesis of fluorescein-appended perfluoroalkyl iron compounds
Second place—David Moss, a geology major from Chelsea, Okla., for Pliocene Development of Great White Shark Serrations
Third place—Daniel Antee, a biology major from Bossier City, La., for Relationship between color of flowers in the field and feeder color preference by Apis mellifera

Social Science

First place—Matthew Wallace, a business administration and psychology major from Shreveport, La., for The Role of Informational and Transformational Ad Content in Higher Education Marketing
Second place—Blaine Wilson, a sociology and psychology major from Lafayette, La., for An Analysis of Privilege: Men, Masculinity and Sexuality
Third place—John Hafer, a business economics, finance, and business administration major from Cincinnati, Ohio, for Executive Participation in Fraudulent Financial Reporting: The Behavioral Influence of Options in the Compensation Package

Humanities

First place—Elinora Madrid, a biology major from Shreveport, La., for Shakespeare, Cervantes, and the Authorship Question
Second place—Leah Sayad, a double music and french major from Shreveport, La., for Louisiana Songs of French and Creole Origin
Third Place—Britney Winn, a religious studies major from Haynesville, La., for An Unarticulated, Popular Theodicy: Constructing Conversation between Wendy Farley, William Young, and Augustine to Define the Theodicy of The Shack

The annual event allows students to present the results of their research before an audience of faculty and peers. Faculty judges evaluate presentations based on overall presentation, project; including objective, difficulty, evidence and results; significance and originality, and question and answers. Poster presentations are judged on display, content and oral presentation.

A total of 59 research papers and posters were presented during this year's forum, one of the largest numbers in the forum's history.
