Turner Art Center Shows 10/20/40 Group

SHREVEPORT, La.— The works of four contemporary artists with deep ties to Louisiana will be on display in the exhibit "10/20/40" now until Sunday, September 20 at the Turner Art Center at Centenary College of Louisiana.

The group of friends consists of Lynda Benglis, Doug Duffey, Enoch Doyle Jeter, and Sara Plaia Davidson, and call themselves "10/20/40" for the location of their homes on the corresponding interstates. The show includes lithographs, etchings, collages, and wall mounted sculptures.

The community is also invited for a public talk by Doyle Jeter and Doug Duffy on Tuesday, September 8 at 4 p.m. at the gallery

Lynda Benglis is an early feminist film and print maker. She splits her time between New Mexico and East Hampton, New York. She is a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts Grant, and has been honored with several retrospectives. A current exhibition of work is on Tour in Holland and Dublin, Ireland. Her works can be viewed in the public collections of: The Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Guggenheim Museum, New York; The Australian National Gallery; and The Corcoran Museum, Washington, D.C.

Doug Duffey is an international musician and visual artist. He has created visual art since childhood. His collages have been exhibit in galleries in Europe and the United States. He is influenced by German Expressionism, Dada, and time worn billboards. His collages are created with mixed media, incorporating images derived from magazines, newspapers, found paper and packing tape.

Enoch Doyle Jeter is founder of Enoch's Irish Pub, the Eye-20 Group, the 10/20/40 Group, and the Northeast Louisiana Celtic Festival. He has a Masters Degree in Printmaking from New Mexico Highlands University. His work can be found in private and public collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe, N.M.

Sara Plaia Davidson is a painter and sculptor residing in Albuquerque, N.M. She has a Master of Fine Art from Louisiana Tech University, and maintains strong ties to her native Louisiana. She considers her work to be a translation of the landscape.

The Turner Art Center Gallery is located at 3000 Centenary Blvd., and is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and 3 until 6 p.m. on Sundays. For more information call 869-5260.
