Centenary Camerata Performs Yale University Program Oct 23

Camerata

SHREVEPORT, La—In preparation for their Yale University appearance, the Centenary Camerata will perform "Heaven and Hell: Choral Gems for the Faith Based Liberal Arts College," Friday, Oct. 23 in the Anderson Auditorium beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Directed by Dr. Julia Thorn, the choral ensemble from the Hurley School of Music has been invited to perform at the National Collegiate Choral Organization conference in early November at Yale University, and will present this original program at the national conference for choral conductors.

Camerata from Centenary was selected from one of the largest application pools in the history of the conference, and is one of only nine choirs nationally invited to perform at the prestigious biennial event. Of the nine colleges invited, Centenary is the only college from the south...and the only mixed choir from a small liberal arts college to perform.

"It is very unusual to have such a small college like Centenary performing on a national venue," said Thorn. "We are very excited to have the opportunity to demonstrate that we might be a small school from the south, but that we have an outstanding choral program." Centenary will perform alongside choral groups such as the University of Maryland Chamber Singers, Colorado State University Chamber Choir, University of Missouri Singers, and the Cal State Long Beach Chamber Choir.

The performance is free and open to the public; however, donations will be accepted to help defray the cost of travel and lodging. For more information, call 869-5235.
