Icy Weather Closes Centenary Thursday, Jan. 7

Due to the forecasted weather conditions headed toward the Ark-La-Tex region, Centenary College will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 7 for all students, faculty and staff. The men's basketball game against IPFW scheduled for 7 p.m. will take place as scheduled.

The forecast for the Shreveport-Bossier area calls for off-and-on rains to begin Wednesday night and continue into Thursday morning. That rain is expected to begin mixing with snow before daybreak and then turn into snow a short time later.

That snow should last a couple of hours, with accumulations on the ground of about a quarter of an inch — although Caddo-Bossier emergency response officials who met late Wednesday afternoon said they do not expect major road problems.

The precipitation is expected to end about 9:00am on Jan. 7.

Temperatures will begin dropping markedly around noon, going below freezing. Authorities are hoping the roads will have dried out before the cold hits and brings temperatures in the teens early Friday.

The weather is expected to be worse in northern portions of the ArkLaTex.

If you are out on the roads, take extra precautions and remain vigilant of the road conditions. Monitor the local television stations for updates on the weather situation.
