Rev. Betsy Eaves Accepts New Position as Vice President for Student Development

SHREVEPORT, La. (Centenary News Service)— Centenary College announced the appointment of the Rev. Betsy Eaves, Chaplain of the College and Director of the Christian Leadership Center, to the post of Vice President for Student Development effective April 1.

In her new position, Rev. Eaves will supervise student services, religious life, and student life. Student-life programs will be directed by the Dean of Students, currently an open position for which the College is accepting resumes. Rev. Eaves will also continue to serve as the Chaplain of the College.

"Betsy has served her alma mater as Chaplain and Director of the Christian Leadership Center (formerly the Church Careers Institute) since 2002," said David Rowe, President of Centenary College. "Her warm and enduring relationships with students and alumni commend her, especially, for this new role. A perennial student advocate and shrewd administrator, she has distinguished herself as a leader committed to the education of the whole student. "

Rev. Eaves is a native of Tennessee and a graduate of Centenary College. After receiving a B.A. in Christian Education from Centenary in 1978, she served as a Christian Educator in a number of United Methodist Churches in the Memphis and Louisiana Annual Conferences, focusing on ministries with youth, children and families.

"I am honored to have this opportunity," said Eaves. "In my eight years as Centenary's Chaplain, my life has been deeply enriched by the relationships with students who have passed through this institution. I look forward to expanding my connections with these impressive men and women as I serve as their advocate and participate with them in making these important years enriching and meaningful."

Rev. Eaves expects to complete her Master of Divinity through Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill., this spring. She is married to Shreveport native Clay Eaves, a local business owner and musician. They are the parents of two daughters, Emily and Ashley.
