Hurley School of Music Presents Poetic Sonatas at March 8

SHREVEPORT, La. (Centenary News Service)—French Horn performer Thomas Hundemer along with pianist Amanda Roberts will perform Poetic Sonatas in the Anderson Auditorium at the Hurley School of Music, Monday, March 8 beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The sonatas are by Paul Hindemith, Eric Ewazen and a world premiere by Monroe composer John Goss. The program also includes Reverie by Alexander Glazunov, and Hundemer's Gently Weep for horn with electronic echo.

The recital will be repeated March 14 at ULM in Monroe (as part of the ULM Horn Workshop) and March 17 at NSU in Natchitoches.

Thomas Hundemer, a native of Bogalusa, La., has been the principal horn of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra since 1983. He has performed with many orchestras in the United States and Mexico, among them the Orquesta Sinfonica de Xalapa in Mexico, and the Quad Cities Symphony (Iowa-Illinois). He is also principal horn with the Longview, Marshall and Texarkana Symphonies, as well as 3rd horn with the Cabrillo Music Festival Orchestra in Santa Cruz, Calif., 3rdHorn with the Des Moines Metro Opera orchestra, solo horn with the Shreveport Symphony Woodwind Quintet, and co-founder of the New Friends Chamber Players in Shreveport. Hundemer is Instructor of Horn at Centenary College, and was the 1997 recipient of the Shreveport Regional Arts Council's Artist Fellowship in Music, as well as a 1999 and 2001 individual artist grant. He has been a frequent soloist with orchestras in the region.
