Hurley School of Music Presents Night of Music at Anderson Auditorium March 29

Special guest violinist Jennifer Carsillo and winners from concerto and aria to perform

SHREVEPORT, La (Centenary News Service)— Centenary College and the Hurley School of Music are proud to present the internationally-celebrated concert violinist, Jennifer Carsillo, in a performance of the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Hurley Orchestra, Monday, March 29 beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The concert takes place in the Anderson Auditorium in the Hurley School of Music located on the Centenary College campus, and is free and open to the public.

Carsillo has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, Austria, Jamaica and Russia, and has performed recitals throughout the United States and in England, France and Italy.

A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, she was introduced to the violin through the public school system, and her passion for music led her to the Oberlin Conservatory as a student of Marilyn McDonald. After winning the Oberlin Concerto Competition, Carsillo continued her education as a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and under the tutelage of the legendary pedagogues Franco Gulli and Josef Gingold at Indiana University, earning her Master's Degree in violin performance.

Carsillo's newest CD project is "Lullabies for Little Dreamers," a jazz-inspired lullaby album that she recorded with her sister, San Francisco-based jazz vocalist Lori Carsillo.

Also taking the stage will be winners of the concerto and aria competition held earlier this year. Every year music majors from the school compete for an opportunity to perform with the Hurley Orchestra. This year's winners are Colin McRae playing Paul Dukas' Villanelle (or Country Girl) for horn and orchestra; Vincent Turregano singing the Count's aria from the "Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart; and Cara Lamb, who will perform the first movement of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 24 in c minor.

The Hurley Orchestra is under the direction of Dr. Todd Gabriel, associate professor of music.
