Pasket Named LSWA Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE, La.-Centenary baseball player Scott Pasket was recently tabbed as Louisiana Sports Writers Association's Player of the Week after helping the Gents to a 3-2 record last week.

Pasket hit .389 on the week and hit safely in all five games played. The junior recorded eight RBI and two home runs, including a grand slam, while also notching a game-winning sacrifice fly.

Against Northwestern State, Pasket drove in both runs in an exciting 2-1, 10-inning contest at home. His 10th inning sacrifice fly capped the win for the Gents after he drove in the first run earlier that game on a single to right field.

The Anderson, Texas native, had one of his best offensive performances of the year in Game 3 at Summit League foe, South Dakota State last Saturday. Pasket went 2-for-3, scored two runs and drove in five of Centenary's eight runs on two home runs. His solo shot was the first of the year for him and it was followed by a memorable grand slam in his next at-bat that gave way to an 8-3 Centenary win.

Not only did Pasket produce power numbers, he was also productive moving runners in key situations throughout the 2-2 series split with several crucial sacrifice bunts. Playing the sharp corner of third base, Pasket also finished the week with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

On the season, Pasket is now hitting .269 and has driven in 24 runs on 32 hits, including six doubles, two triples and two home runs.

"Scott has been an integral part of our successful season thus far. His offense and defense have been stellar of late and this recognition is well deserved," said head coach Ed McCann.

This is Centenary's third recognized player from the LSWA this season as right-hander Boone Whiting was tabbed as Pitcher of the Week twice.

Centenary will return to action this weekend as it hosts Western Illinois in a four-game league set beginning Friday at 6:00 pm.
