Former Centenary Library Director James George "Jim" Volny Passes Away

The April 30, 2010 edition of The Times-Picayune reported the passing of April 28 death of James George Volny. James Volny was Centenary Library Director from 1977 to 1990.

James "Jim" George Volny on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Beloved husband of Doris Karabek Volny for 52 years. Loving father of Connie Padgett (David), Laurie Langdon (Glenn) and Tina McCaa (Chris). Grandfather of Timmy Pearson and Louis McCaa. He was Director of Libraries at Loyola University, New Orleans from 1966 - 1977 and Centenary College, Shreveport from 1977 - 1990, and then he retired to the family home in Metairie and traveled the world for the next 18 years. Age 78 years. A native of Columbus, OH, grew up in Cleveland, OH and a resident of Metairie for the past 44 years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel of Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr., Metairie, on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be from 9 am until time of Mass. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 4141 Veterans Blvd., Suite 202, Metairie, LA 70002, preferred.
