Camerata
Centenary College Camerata

SHREVEPORT, La. (Centenary News Service) — Camerata, the premiere choral ensemble from the Hurley School of Music at Centenary College, will present their first concert of the fall semester Friday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.

This concert offers an eclectic Missa Brevis in which each movement is taken from a different period of music history. Camerata will also be singing a group of American folk songs and a preview piece from each of the upcoming events of the year which includes: the Madrigal Dinner, Messiah, and the All Hebrew Program.

Chorale, the chamber group from Camerata, will feature the Vaughn Williams Serenade to Music with a variety of student soloists.

Under the direction of Dr. Julia Brasher Thorn, Camerata is a choral group primarily composed of voice majors, dedicated to quality artistic performances of the choral repertoire from all historical periods, and its performances are lauded for technical excellence combined with genuine understanding of musical expression. Camerata performs classic choral works to the highest musical standards. This 40-to-50 voice choir offers two to four local concerts each year.

Though most members of Camerata are voice majors, membership is open to all Centenary students by audition.
