The March for Maji takes place Saturday, Oct. 2

SHREVEPORT, La. (Centenary News Service) — Walkers will take to the streets around the Centenary College campus Saturday, Oct. 2 for the 3nd Annual March for Maji. The public event begins at Jones Rice Field and takes place from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Hosted by the Centenary Women United Women's Bible study group and the Centenary College Chaplains office, the event will raise funds for the non-profit organization, 410 Bridge and their H204K, Water for Kenya program to help build water wells. The word maji is Swahili for water.

Individuals and teams of no more than five members will "march" around the College campus to raise awareness and funds. Participants are asked to pay an entrance fee of $10 per team or $5 for individuals.

Organizers of the march hope to raise at least $3,000 during the event—the cost of digging one water well for a village in Kenya.

There will be free food and a free concert in the Hargrove Memorial Amphitheatre following the walk, plus prizes for those who complete the most laps around campus.
