AUCTION TO BENEFIT MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION SATURDAY, NOV. 13

SHREVEPORT, La. (Centenary News Service) — The Iota Gamma chapter of Chi Omega at Centenary College will hold their 9th Annual Auction, "Become a Genie, Grant Aaron's Wish," Saturday, Nov. 13 to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Louisiana.

Members of the Iota Gamma chapter of Chi Omega take a moment to pose for a photograph with Aaron. The chapter will hold an auction Nov. 13 to help fulfill the wish of Aaron to go to Disney World later this month.

The event will be held in the Haynes Gymnasium of Centenary's Fitness Center from 4 until 6 p.m. and will include a live and silent auction, music and food. The tickets are $5 in advance and can be purchased from any member of the sorority. Tickets can be purchased at the door the night of the event for $7.

This year's proceeds from the auction will help assist the "Wish" of a second grader from Shreveport and his family take a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., later this month.

Seven-year old Aaron become ill January 2009 and was later diagnosed with Burkitt's lymphoma, an uncommon type of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma that typically affects children. It is a highly aggressive type of B-cell lymphoma that often starts and involves body parts other than lymph nodes. In spite of its fast-growing nature, it is often curable with modern intensive therapies.

Doctor's found a tumor in Aaron's colon and immediately sent him to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. They were able to remove the tumor, followed by four months of chemotherapy. Aaron is now home after spending more than 4 1/2 months at the hospital.

Today Aaron is attending Turner Elementary School and receives a check-up once every three months.

Founded in 1895 at the University of Arkansas, Chi Omega is the largest women's fraternal organization in the world with over 290,000 initiates and 171 collegiate chapters. In 2002 Chi Omega announced the Chi Omega Make-A-Wish alliance and has raised $5.5 million and donated more than 375,000 volunteer hours to the cause.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Founded in 1980 when a group of caring volunteers helped a young boy fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer, the Foundation is now the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 65 chapters in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and nearly 25,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation grants a wish every 40 minutes and has granted more than 185,000 wishes in the United States since its inception.
