WEATHER WARNING AND CANCELLATIONS

UPDATE 2/5/2011 1:00 a.m.

The Homecoming Parade is still scheduled for 12:15 on Saturday, though the route will be shortened, turning into campus at the main entrance near Meadows Museum. The Street Festival to follow will be held in Bynum Commons. Other Saturday events are still scheduled as planned except as noted:

The 1981 Class Reunion on Saturday has been postponed until later date.

UPDATE 2/4/2011/ 2:21 p..m.

The Centenary gymnastics final home meet originally set to host SEMO has been changed to a Senior Spectacular Intrasquad to honor the five senior gymnasts, beginning at 7 pm. The official meet was canceled due to weather conditions and judges' arrival.

The 1981 Class Reunion on Saturday has been postponed until later date.

Due to the inclement weather and hazardous driving conditions, the Alumni Awards Dinner has been CANCELED.

Retirement reception for Dr. Rodney Grunes has been CANCELED.

Currently, the Gymnastics meet is still scheduled to proceed as planned in the evening, though additional updates could be forthcoming.

Campus is closed to students, faculty, and staff on Friday, Feb 4. All classes are canceled.

SHREVEPORT, La. (Centenary News Service) — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for our area, including Northeast Texas, and North and Central Louisiana, from 6 p.m. tonight through 6 p.m. Friday night. Snow, sleet and brief periods of freezing rain are expected to develop tonight with snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches possible. The precipitation will taper off in the late afternoon and early evening Friday.
Because of the possibility of inclement weather, the College has decided to announce the following cancellations and information:

  • All classes beginning at 5 p.m. or after on Thursday evening have been canceled
  • The Basketball game between Centenary and NDSU Thursday evening will proceed as planned
  • The Scholar's Legacy Luncheon on Friday, Feb. 4 has been canceled
  • The Alumni Awards Dinner scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4 will proceed as planned. Traveler's are urged to exercise caution and not take any unnecessary risks to attend the event. Should conditions worsen, a decision will be made on Friday to postpone the event and attendees will be notified.
  • The Bonfire set for 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4 has been canceled; the Gumbo Cook-off will still proceed in Kilpatrick at 9 p.m.
  • The Saturday Street Festival will now be held indoors in the Fitness Center.

Classes for Friday, Feb. 4 have NOT been canceled as of this time. If conditions warrant, a decision to cancel classes will be made by 5 a.m. Friday morning. Cancellation announcements will be posted on the Centenary.edu website and broadcast on the local television stations as well as all local radio stations.

Everyone is urged to remain vigilant to changing weather and travel conditions. Temperatures will be cold enough for any precipitation that falls to stick to the ground...including the roads and bridges. Travel may become hazardous Thursday night and Friday. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities...and use caution while driving if you must be on the roads.
