Dr. Mike Hemphill at Founders' Day: "What Are We Making Here?"

"We are all Founders."

Dr. Mike Hemphill, Provost and Dean of the College, was the featured speaker for the 2011 Founders' Day Convocation, an annual tradition during which the campus community reflects on the history of the institution and looks forward to its future.

watch the talk in its entirety:

He addressed the students, faculty and staff, and discussed how we are influenced by the stories of our founders, that we are using those stories told to influence the stories we are living right now, and in the management of those stories lived, we are acting into the social reality that is Centenary. He concluded by saying that we are making Centenary's history right now, and in that way, we are all founders.

Dr. Hemphill joined Centenary in July of 2011 after serving as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and professor of communication at the Clinton School of Public Service in Little Rock, Ark. Prior to joining the Clinton School, he spent 24 years on the faculty of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where he served as chair of the Department of Speech Communication, and for a period, as dean of the College of Professional Studies.
