Rules in Un-ruled Lands and A New Egypt subjects of talks April 19

SHREVEPORT, La. (Centenary News Service) — The issue of Rules in Un-Ruled Lands: The Origins of Property Rights in Palestinian Refugee Camps will be addressed during Convocation Tuesday, April 19 in the Whited Room of Bynum Commons beginning at 11 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Nadya S. Hajj, assistant professor of political science at Wellesley College will be the featured speaker.

Specializing in comparative politics and qualitative methods with a regional focus on the Middle East, her Ph.D. dissertation focused on the origins of property rights among marginalized groups. In particular, she has examined the formation of property rights among Palestinian refugees. Dr. Hajj conducted her field research in Palestinian refugee camps located throughout Jordan and Lebanon.

As an expert on political issues in the Middle East, Dr. Hajj will present a second talk, A New Egypt? Origins and Consequences of the 2011 Revolution beginning at 7 p.m. in Kilpatrick Auditorium. She will discuss the recent uprising in Egypt and the implications for other nations in the Arab world. The talk is free and open to the public

Dr. Hajji received her B.A. in Politics and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville; and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science, from Emory University.
