Big Love takes the stage at MLP April 14-17

SHREVEPORT, La. (Centenary News Service) — From the imaginings of one of today's most exciting contemporary playwrights comes the groundbreaking play Big Love by Charles L. Mee. This fearlessly physical production showcases a circus act of elements that defies the boundaries of conventional theatre and directly engages the audience to examine issues of sexuality, gender equality, and, of course, love.

The plot follows the story of 50 brides as they flee to Italy on their wedding day to escape their arranged marriages. The action focuses in on three brides and three grooms as they engage in a heated battle of the sexes ending in a chaotic blend of murder and true love.

Directed by faculty member Emily Heugatter, Big Love is a bold, funny, and provocative production that relies on the tightly knit ensemble cast of Sandy Rather, Abby Presswood, Chelsea David, Lauren Morrison, Natasha Sebeyran, Barry James Acosta, David Fitzgibbons, Scott Gibbs, Jacob Bates, Josh Rabalais, Emily Hay, Amanda Spangler, and Tara Watson.

Charles Mee's explosive modern day retelling of the ancient Greek myth of the Danaids aggressively challenges accepted stereotypes of love and commitment. Ideas ricochet through the theatre like a shotgun blast and will continue to reverberate in the minds of the audience long after the curtain falls.

Big Love opens at the Marjorie Lyons Playhouse on April 14 and runs for one weekend only with performances April 14, 15 and 16 at 8 p.m. and April 17 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and military, and $10 for children under 12 and non-Centenary College students.
