Art Exhibit featuring student works on display at Meadows
Caddo Magnet High School exhibit runs through May 26
SHREVEPORT, La. (Centenary News Service) — An exhibition of art entitled Works by Students from Caddo Magnet High is on display through May 26 at the Meadows Museum of Art at Centenary College of Louisiana.
Featured in this exhibition are works by dozens of students from Caddo Magnet High in Shreveport. Included are both two and three-dimensional pieces mounted throughout the museum's four upstairs galleries. The three-dimensional ceramic works on view were created under the instruction of Holly Hennessey and include raku vases as well as traditional glazed, hand-thrown pottery vessels.
Shirlene Alexander oversees two—dimensional studio production at the school. This year's exhibition of works includes black and white scratch boards of animals, extraordinary photorealistic color pencil images, batiks and a variety of painting types. An interesting collection of three pair of shoes painted in detail rounds out the exhibition to delight visitors.
A special reception for this important student exhibition will be held Tuesday, May 24, in the Meadows Museum of Art galleries from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Members from the regional community are invited to attend and enjoy viewing the art work, refreshments and talking with the artists.
Also on view are works created by the residents from Holy Angels Residential Facility with the help of the members of the Caddo Magnet High art club entitled The Outside Magnet Art Therapy Organization for the heART, or T.O.M.A.T.O. heART. Club members volunteer every Monday at The LightHouse at the Highland Center and every-other Sunday at Holy Angels as part of their commitment to community service. The works in the Holy Angels-LightHouse exhibition area were chosen from hundreds of pieces produced at both facilities and provides visitors with insight into the talent fostered by T.O.M.A.T.O. heart.

The Meadows Museum of Art is located on the campus of Centenary College of Louisiana at 2911 Centenary Boulevard in Shreveport. The Museum is open to the general public from noon until 4 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; from noon until 5 pm on Thursday; and from 1 until 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
