Centenary and LSUS Soccer Team Up to Benefit March of Dimes

SHREVEPORT, LA — The March of Dimes is a cause that is near and dear to Centenary soccer Coach David Orr's heart. Coach Orr and his family have long supported the organization since the premature birth of his son, Camden, in 2008. Camden was born a micro-preemie, and weighed less than 2 pounds. Centenary Soccer Team

Due to this experience, Coach Orr has teamed up with LSUS head soccer Coach Mike Aguilar, who also has a connection to the March of Dimes, to provide Shreveport with a cross-town collegiate soccer contest referred to as the Mayor's Cup. This year's doubleheader matchup will benefit Shreveport's local chapter of the March of Dimes. With no admission charge, fans and members of the Shreveport community are encouraged to participate and help support March of Dimes by giving donations, purchasing t-shirts and hamburgers and hotdogs off the grill from the cookout.

"Centenary Soccer is proud to be part of the Shreveport Community and to assist the North Louisiana chapter of the March of Dimes. Our hope is that the Centenary community, LSUS community and the NW Louisiana soccer communities all come out to support the March of Dimes and enjoy the inaugural Mayor's Cup between Centenary Soccer and LSU-Shreveport Soccer," said Coach Orr.

The 1st annual game is slated to begin Monday, Sept. 12 at Centenary's Mayo Field. The women's game will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7 p.m. The two teams will alternate locations of competition each year with Centenary hosting the inaugural Cup. The winners of both the women's and men's game will return to their institutions with a "Mayor's Cup" trophy signifying the year's victory.

March of Dimes is a national non-profit organization that helps to improve the health of moms and babies. The March of Dimes provides mothers, pregnant women and women of childbearing age with educational resources on baby health, pregnancy, preconception and new motherhood, as well as supplying information and support to families affected by prematurity, birth defects, or other infant health problems.
