Students Give Back During Fall Break

SHREVEPORT, LA — A group of fourteen Centenary College faculty, staff, and students traveled to New Orleans for the Fall Mission Trip October 12-16.

The Chaplain's Office partnered with the Epworth Center in Slidell to work on a duplex in mid-town that had been damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The group scraped and cleaned staircases; painted baseboards and trim; painted and caulked one side of the house; and painted the front porch lattice.

The participants stayed at the Rampart Community Center, which had been a worksite on a previous mission trip. Randall Walker and Monique Hoffmeister, two Centenary alumni, and current student Maggie Aultman's parents hosted dinners for the group on different nights. At the close of the weekend, alumna Anita Dinwiddie welcomed the tired workers into St. Mark's United Methodist Church for worship.

The Chaplain's Office oversees all religious life on campus and offers many opportunities to explore spirituality. Mission trips are just one of the diverse options offered at Centenary College to engage students in a whole-person educational experience that creates meaningful and sustainable lives.
