Phonathon in Progress

SHREVEPORT, LA — Four nights a week from 5:30 until 8:30, the basement of the Wright Math Building is bustling with activity as seven Centenary students make phone calls to alumni and friends of the College. The goal of the Phonathon is to secure gifts for the Centenary Fund for Student Scholarships.

Fourteen students in all work the Phonathon center on different days of the week. The students come from all over the United States and have majors ranging from biophysics to business. Despite other jobs and activities (some students are athletes and choir members), they make time to work the Phonathon.

"95% of us receive financial aid," said Freshman caller Addie Barron. "Scholarships make it possible for more students to come here and have the same awesome experiences I am having. No one should miss out on Centenary just from lack of money."

The students have a goal of 16 pledges per night, and they work together to reach it. However, the positive connection of current student to alumni seems to be another aspect of the Phonathon that the students get excited about. The callers share current events of the College but also hear alumni stories in return.

"As an alumnus of the College, these students are the kind of kids that make me proud to be a part of Centenary," said David Williams, Associate Manager of Advancement Services and Coordinator of the Phonathon.

The Phonathon will be making calls to alumni for seven weeks in the Fall and in the Spring. Every gift counts and helps the College achieve the dollar goal and the alumni giving percentage goal. To support student scholarships, visit safe.centenary.edu/give now.
