Centenary Ranked Nationally in Top 100 Best Values

SHREVEPORT, LA — Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine has named Centenary College as one of the "Best Values in Private Colleges" in its top 100 annual ranking. Centenary is the only private liberal arts college in a multi-state region to be recognized for the honor.

Mary\'s Picnic

Kiplinger's noted that private colleges spend more per student than public colleges, offer better service and smaller classes, and devote more resources to the campus setting. Centenary was chosen as a college where academic strength and affordability exist side by side.

  • Approximately 62% of students scored 24 or above on the ACT exam.

  • Of all students receiving financial aid, 83% of students' financial aid needs were entirely met.

  • Centenary awarded more than $6 million in financial aid to the 2011 incoming class.

According to David Warren of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, private colleges are attracting more low-income and first-time college students. Even while the economy has struggled, enrollment has increased at private colleges, due in large part to proactive financial aid programs.

Centenary also recently reinvested more than $5 million in enhancing its 65-acre campus which has long been known for its beauty. At the heart of campus is an outdoor botanical laboratory, home to more than 300 species of plant life, offering hands-on scientific exploration and quiet spaces for reflection.
