Magale Library hosts Taffie Garsee exhibit

SHREVEPORT, LA — The Magale Library is hosting an exhibit by painter Taffie Garsee through April 8 in the front lobby. Garsee's works are expressionist paintings on canvas with acrylics.

"We believe that our library art gallery creates an informal learning environment," said Kristi Kohl, electronic resources, reference and web librarian. "Art exhibitions stimulate intellectual interactions, promote creative thinking, and provide a pathway for conversation across disciplines. Hopefully, students will leave with a more open mind and a spark of creativity."

Primarily a self-taught and instinctual painter, Garsee integrates criticism from her contemporaries and incorporates past influences into her work on a daily basis.

"I exaggerate the color and size of my subjects to draw attention to the beauty and intricacies of the overlooked and insignificant objects in day-to-day life," said Garsee. "My images reaffirm that beauty exists in the least likely places."

Garsee is currently participating in the Shreveport Visual Arts Critique Groups. She previously worked as an Assistant Art Director at Advocate Advertising. She studied with Don Alexander at Louisiana State University-Shreveport for one semester.

Garsee's "Artist Talk" is scheduled for Sunday, March 25, at 4:00 p.m. in Magale's art gallery. The event is free and open to the public.
