Centenary mourns trustee and friend
SHREVEPORT, LA — Dr. Nancy M. Carruth '82DHL, a beloved long-time member of the Centenary community, passed away in her home on Sunday, April 1. Dr. Carruth was born in Alexandria in 1927 and was a lifelong resident of Bunkie.
Dr. Carruth became a friend of the College in 1976 and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Centenary in 1982. The following year, she became a member of the Board of Trustees. She served on the Executive Committee and the Women's Endowment Quorum. She was also Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee. Dr. Carruth was a dear friend of the Centenary College Choir and a generous supporter of the education of all Centenary students.
She contributed her time, talent, and leadership to not only Centenary but the United Methodist Conference as well. Dr. Carruth helped launch and lead Africa University in Zimbabwe and served as a Louisiana Conference delegate to General and Jurisdictional Conferences numerous times. She was an avid supporter of the Daughenbaugh-Matheny Scholarship Fund and the Wesley Center Board of Trustees. After more than two decades of service, Dr. Carruth retired from the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation Board in 2009. She was honored at a tribute dinner, where a Centenary endowment was established in her name.

Dr. Carruth was the widow of Edward Thomas Carruth, ordained Baptist minister. She leaves behind two children, Donna and William, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

The service will be this Thursday, April 5, 11:00 a.m., at David Haas Memorial United Methodist Church in Bunkie, LA. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service as well as on Wednesday evening, April 4 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
The Centenary College Choir, under the direction of Dr. David Hobson and Dr. Will Andress, will help lead this worship service. The Choir will sing Psalm 150 and Be Not Afraid. Centenary Choir alumni will join the choir in singing The Lord Bless You and Keep You.
