Theater camps coming in June

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College is offering residential summer camps providing concentrated theatrical training for high school sophomores and juniors this June. The camps will focus on contemporary acting, classical acting, and musical theater:

Student acting Macbeth

  • Contemporary Acting Studio
    June 11-16
    $565

  • Classical Acting Studio
    June 18-23
    $565

  • Musical Theater Workshop
    June 25-30
    $665

"Centenary's theater camps are a great avenue through which students can explore the arts this summer," said Ron Lamar, Centenary's Director of Community Services. "The camps will enable students to express themselves through contemporary, classical, and musical theater under the mentorship of experienced professionals."

Classes will run from 8:00 a.m. into the evening. Students interested in attending should be committed to the craft of theater and the hours necessary to make the camp meaningful. Entertainment will be scheduled for when there are no evening classes. Parents will be invited to attend a performance presented at the conclusion of each camp.

Students registering for the musical theater workshop should arrive at camp with two prepared Broadway songs from non-rock musicals.

"The goal of the musical theater workshop is for participants to learn the fundamentals of 'acting the song' as well as proper vocal techniques and dance," said Ryan Williams, who will lead the musical theater workshop.

Registration and more information is available online. Discounts are available for combined sessions.
