Meadows Museum holds Art Camp

SHREVEPORT, LA — The Meadows Museum of Art at Centenary College will hold Art Camp from June 18-July 20. The camp consists of four different week-long sessions from 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. for first, second, and third graders. Each session has a particular artistic focus, and campers are able to create a new work of art everyday. The cost per session is $125, but an early morning yoga option can be included for a total of $145.

Taking place June 18-22, session one explores art and literature through an Eric Carlisle inspired project, Where the Wild Things Are, Dr. Seuss, A Color of His Own, and The Rainbow Fish.

Session two, June 25-29, delves into the work of the modern masters. The Monday through Friday program focuses on a specific artist's work each day: Paul Cezanne's still life, Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers, Maud Lewis's folk art, Pablo Picasso's faces, and George Rodrigue's Blue Dog.

From July 9-13, campers in session three will discover different styles of architecture. They will begin by examining barn drawings and Victorian homes, and, by Wednesday, campers will explore the structures of the New Orleans Quarter. The session will end with discussions and projects on the city at night and futuristic city.

Session four, July 16-20, is centered on Mexican art and artists. Campers will learn about chalk adobe, sugar skills, amate bark drawings, and mola drawings. They will end the week by exploring the lives and work of Mexican artists Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo.
