Centenary holds Community Leaders Luncheon

SHREVEPORT, LA — Prominent political and business leaders of Shreveport-Bossier met in the Whited Room of Bynum Commons at Centenary College on Tuesday, June 19, for a Community Leaders Luncheon. Featured guest speaker John Maginnis, a noted political analyst, provided commentary on the most recent Louisiana legislative session.

"Centenary believes in not only developing future leaders but also informing and connecting current leaders of the community," said Matt Bailey, Senior Director for Marketing & Communication. "We hope that these meetings will become a regular occurrence, allowing our students to recognize through example that learning is a lifelong endeavor."

Maginnis recapped the latest legislative session, which focused on major education reforms, state retirement system issues, and state spending reforms.

The luncheon group was welcomed by Matt Bailey, who recognized special attendees. Director of Strategic Communication Margo Shideler'03 gave a brief overview of the College's current operations. Angie White'93, Vice President of Workforce Marketing at North Louisiana Economic Partnership and president of Centenary's National Alumni Council, introduced Maginnis to the assembly.

John Maginnis has been writing about Louisiana politics since 1972. He publishes the LaPolitics Weekly, an email newsletter, and writes a weekly syndicated column that appears in 16 newspapers across the state. Maginnis is the author of two books on Louisiana politics—The Last Hayride and Cross to Bear.

The 2013 regular legislative session will convene on Monday, April 8.
