Students choose Centenary for travel, caring atmosphere

SHREVEPORT, LA — The second Springboard of the summer has come and gone, with 34 new students taking part in small group sessions and placement exams. The students were excited to finally see their choice college in action during the two-day event held June 24-25.

"I love the caring atmosphere and the opportunities to do mission work and travel abroad," said incoming freshman Sadie Wallace, a graduate of Shekinah Academy.

Shreveport native Christina Langston agreed:

"I chose Centenary because I have heard so many great things about the school, such as the instructors treat the students as individuals and not just as a number. I also wanted to be involved in the Centenary Choir. Singing has been a massive part of my life, and I'm excited to have the opportunity to share the experience of traveling with the other students involved in the choir."

The new students engaged in small group sessions to get to know one another, capped off by a mega relay held on Jones Rice Field. On Monday, they completed their registration with one-on-one advisory sessions.

"Springboard was a great way to allow me to have an opportunity to meet students that will attend Centenary with me," said Langston. "The experience enabled me to see what the school is about, what organizations I can be involved in, and what to look forward to as an incoming freshman."

Both students now feel prepared and ready to begin the fall semester.

"I am looking forward to making friendships that last a lifetime, and also taking the next step into my future by furthering my education at Centenary," said Wallace.

Springboard is a two-day, on-campus session during which incoming students meet their advisors to register for class, meet classmates, finalize financial arrangements, and prepare for life as a Centenary student in the fall. The final Springboard session of the summer will take place July 22-23.
