College welcomes Assistant Director for Intercultural Engagement

SHREVEPORT, LA — Nicole Rapagnani has joined Centenary College as the Assistant Director for Intercultural Engagement within the Office of Global Engagement.

"Nicole is a welcome addition to our Office of Global Engagement team," said Chris Lavan, Director of Global Engagement. "Her training as a peer-to-peer diversity educator and experience traveling to 5 different countries will be invaluable in her communication with our intercultural and international students."

Before arriving at Centenary, Rapagnani served as an area representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes—first for northern Indiana and more recently for southwest Louisiana. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with a minor in African-American studies from the University of Notre Dame. While an undergraduate, Nicole participated in diversity education, served as a Resident Assistant, worked in Sports Information, and was a member of the rowing team her freshmen year.

As the Assistant Director for Intercultural Engagement, Rapagnani will work closely with the international exchange students to provide them with opportunities to fully experience American culture and Centenary College. She will also administer the faculty and student exchange programs with Centenary's nine exchange partners. The emphasis on diversity is one of the many reasons Rapagnani is looking forward to the upcoming semester.

"I am passionate about engaging individuals of diverse backgrounds, especially college students, and encouraging people to be stretched outside of their comfort zone to embrace diversity," said Rapagnani. "I believe it is important to celebrate differences that make each culture and individual special and unique. I look forward to assisting intercultural and international students in transitioning and adapting to their new environment."

The Office of Global Engagement (OGE) leads students in integrated learning opportunities by guiding them through intentional reflection on cultures different than their own and service to their local and global communities.
