"In truth, it is challenging to compile a large number of national liberal arts institutions that understand—and recognize—how integral music is in the creation of sophisticated minds," said Wikan. "The Hurley School of Music and its choral tradition are rare gems. I am eager to contribute to Centenary's exemplary tradition."

Wikan is currently completing his Doctor of Musical Arts in choral conducting at Boston University under the leadership of Ann Howard Jones. He holds a M.M. from Northwestern University and a B.A. from Luther College.

He has over 18 years of experience in music and higher education. Before arriving at Centenary, Wikan served as an Instructor of Conducting at Boston University and the Director of Music and the Arts for the Congregational Church of Topsfield in Topsfield, MA. He recently completed his fourth summer as Manager of Chamber Music at the Aspen Music Festival and School.

The Hurley School of Music is home to one of the largest programs at Centenary, with a sizable percentage of the student body majoring in music or participating in ensembles. All students study with highly qualified performers and scholars.
