Magale Library displays "Yours, Mine & Ours" exhibit

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary's Magale Library will host an opening reception for the joint art exhibit "Yours, Mine & Ours" on Sunday, September 9, at 4:30 p.m. The exhibit features work from artists Daniel Mark Cassity and Diana Garrison.

Yours, Mine & Ours artwork

Yours

Garrison's imagery is delivered through colorful watercolor washes and black ink. Her work zooms in on the small dragonflies, bugs, and birds that are among her favorite subjects.

Mine

Cassity's paintings are stylized representations of nature—specifically herons, egrets, and their habitats. His images evoke the memory of his encounters with nature.

Ours

Together, Cassity and Garrison produce illustrations for a humorous young children's book, Christmas in the Castle. In this seamless collaboration, Cassity provides the words, foundation cartooning, and base color. Garrison lends her embellishment to the images through texture, color washes, and lyrical line work.

Diana Garrison, a native of rural Arkansas, obtained a BFA in graphic design from Louisiana Tech in 1986. She worked as a graphic artist in Shreveport for many years freelancing for small design shops and assuming part ownership of Pabst Creative Communications. She has taught art to all grade levels since 2002.

Her illustrations for Let Living Be My Song, a book of poetry by Roberta Arwood, won "Best in Print" in the 2010 Shreveport-Bossier Advertising Federation competition.

Like Garrison, Cassity graduated from Louisiana Tech with a BFA in 1986. He is most known for his realism in the still life genre. He was named a finalist in The Artist's Magazine's annual competitions in the still life category in 2010, 2011, and 2012. He is currently represented by Taylor's Contemporanea: Salon of Fine Art of Hot Springs, AR, and the Davis Gallery of Austin, TX.

"Yours, Mine & Ours" will be available for viewing through the end of September in the lobby of Magale Library during regularly scheduled library hours.
