Hurley School of Music welcomes Terry Hopkins

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary's Hurley School of Music has welcomed Terry Hopkins as an adjunct faculty member in instrumental music beginning in the fall 2012 semester. Hopkins will supervise student teachers and teach music methods in instrumental music.

Prior to joining Centenary, Hopkins spent 35 years as a band director in both Louisiana and Texas. Under his direction, many of his bands were awarded sweepstakes at district, state, and national contests. A "sweepstakes" occurs when a band receives a one from every judge—the highest ranking a band can receive.

"I am excited to work at Centenary," said Hopkins. "I am happy to thrive with co-workers who I have been around for almost 40 years. It feels refreshing to be around positive people who are helpful and make me feel part of the team."

Hopkins holds both a bachelor's and master's degree from Northwestern State University. He is an active instrumentalist and has performed with the Shreveport Symphony for 22 years, the Longview Symphony 26 years, and the Marshall Symphony for 37 years.

He was once a member of the house band at Hirsch Coliseum and LeBossier' Theatre, performing with musicians such as James Brown, Gladys Knight, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, Frankie Valle, and others.
