Marjorie Lyons Playhouse presents Baby with the Bathwater
SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary's Marjorie Lyons Playhouse kicks off its 2012-13 mainstage season Friday, September 28, with award-winning playwright Christopher Durang's zany and touching dark comedy Baby with the Bathwater.
Amidst a host of bizarre characters, Baby with the Bathwater follows John and Helen Dingleberry's family from their first terrifying days of parenthood, involving kidnapping, infidelity and two deaths, through their child's tempestuous upbringing, where we see a penchant for running (in front of buses), promiscuity, and lots of therapy.
Over the course of this quirky and moving tale of how resilient children are to the onslaught of parental neuroses, Baby With The Bathwater bounces from one absurd situation to the next, tying them together with a string of twisted logic. Yet, after all the terrible decisions, including giving their baby Nyquil and guessing their child's gender to avoid intruding on its privacy, audience members can't help but root for these well-meaning parents and hope that their misguided child can find a way to survive their precarious reasoning.
Directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre Emily Heugatter, Baby with the Bathwater boasts an exciting cast of young talent from the Centenary Theatre Department. Jordan Fell plays the irrationally obsessive mother Helen; Josh Rabalais portrays the desperate father trying to hold his family (and himself) together; and Jonathan Slocum makes his debut on the MLP stage as the Dingleberrys' sexually confused and socially inept child, Daisy.

Baby with the Bathwater runs for two weekends at the Marjorie Lyons Playhouse with performances Friday September 28th — Saturday October 6th with one matinee on Sunday September 30th. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and military, and $10 for children under 12 and non-Centenary College students with a valid ID.
