Alumna named Bossier Parish Elementary Teacher of the Year

SHREVEPORT, LA — Nadine Charity '81 has been named the Bossier Parish Elementary Teacher of the Year. Charity currently serves as the art teacher for Platt Elementary in Haughton.

"I am so pleased to be representing the many talented, dedicated teachers first at my school and also at all of the elementary schools in Bossier Parish," said Charity.
"Every single teacher I know wants only one thing: to offer children all that they have to make the school experience challenging, exciting, and successful. I am humbled to be the representative of people with such dedication to our future."

Charity has been teaching in Bossier Parish since 1986. She has previously taught both kindergarten and second grade. National Board certified in 2003, Charity was named the 2012 Louisiana Art Educator of the Year and traveled to Japan in 2007 through the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund.

She holds a Master of Liberal Arts from LSUS and received both an undergraduate and master degree in education from Centenary. Charity credits past Education professors Dr. Dorothy Gwin, Dr. Halquist, and Dr. Garner for her success in teaching:

"I appreciate Centenary and the fine teachers who take an active interest in each student. Dr. Gwin, especially, made me feel that I could impact lives. I also value having known such legends as Dr. Mary Warters in the Biology Department. Getting an 'A' in her class was certainly a highlight of my time at Centenary."
