Centenary and Sankofa Vision present Fight for Light

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary's GreenHouse and Sankofa Vision are partnering together to present Fight for Light with global thought leader Markese Bryant for the Green Circles NWLA Campus Tour. Fight for Light is a modern social justice movement dedicated to engaging and educating students to become transformational leaders who are environmental agents of change in low-income economies.

A meet and greet with Markese Bryant is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. prior to the event.

Bryant seeks to spread the messages of a green economy, social entrepreneurship, and Dr. Martin Luther King's dream reborn. He believes that in working together, communities can build a green economy that lifts people out of poverty and saves the planet.

A California native, Bryant lost his mother to drugs and his father to the prison system. In 2005, he nearly met the same fate after he was caught selling cocaine. Through the Oakland Mentor diversion program, Bryant was given the opportunity to make amends. One year later, he enrolled in Morehouse College, completing his B.A. in African American Studies in 2010.

As Green for All's College Ambassador Program Associate, Bryant is nationally recognized for cultivating college leaders who advocate for clean energy, green jobs, energy efficiency, and urban agriculture. He is also a hip hop artist, known as Doo Dat, who spreads the message for the global green movement.

Following the presentation on Centenary's campus, a celebration will take place at ArtSpace in downtown Shreveport. Tickets are available through Sankofa Vision. Bryant will perform his song "The Dream Reborn" at the event. For more information visit Homecoming Sankofa Gardens.

GreenHouse, Centenary's sustainability living-learning community, enables students who share an interest in environmental and sustainability issues to live and study together in a designated residence hall. GreenHouse students can earn academic credit by participating in a "Sustainability Projects Lab" in which students work closely with peers and faculty to design and implement sustainability projects on campus and in the community.
