Centenary takes part in community discussion on race
SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary is partnering with LSU Health Shreveport, the Multicultural Center of the South, and Southern University at Shreveport to offer a three-part community-wide discussion that investigates race in society, science, and history. The events are free and open to the Shreveport-Bossier community.
"Centenary students, staff, and faculty are committed to promoting diversity on our campus and within our larger community," said Chad Fulwider, Centenary Assistant Professor of History and Chair of the Diversity Committee. "Having engaged, open discussions about the racial issues that are still affecting all of us is simply part of our larger mission to promote diversity awareness and to help others appreciate the richness that diversity brings."
Each discussion will follow showings of one-hour episodes of the PBS documentary RACE—The Power of an Illusion:
October 11, 7:00 p.m.
Southern University at Shreveport, Room 310/11Episode 1—"The Difference Between Us" examines how recent scientific discoveries have toppled the concept of biological race.

Robinson Film CenterEpisode 2—"The Story We Tell" uncovers the roots of the race concept, including the 19th century science that legitimized it and the hold it has gained in unconventional thinking.
