Archives exhibits "Homecoming Traditions" in Bynum Commons

SHREVEPORT, LA — In anticipation of the upcoming 2012 Homecoming, the Centenary Archives is displaying the exhibit "Homecoming Traditions, 1962-2007" in the lobby of Bynum Commons.

"This exhibit offers students an opportunity to learn about Centenary's homecoming traditions," said Chris Brown, Centenary Archivist. "Plus, the items included in the display provide an entertaining way for alumni to reconnect with their own past."

The exhibit features a sampling of materials from the Centenary College Archives and Special Collections related to past homecoming celebrations at Centenary. Throughout these years, the annual festivities have commonly included a parade, basketball game, alumni class reunions, and the crowning of a Homecoming Queen.

Centenary's 2012 Homecoming includes an All Class Reunion honoring the classes of 1962, 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, and 2007. Material chosen for this exhibition highlights past homecoming activities from these same years.

Centenary Archivist Chris Brown, Archives volunteer Lindsay Atkins '01, and Archives student worker Hope Vollm researched and prepared this exhibition.

The Archives recently digitized various Centenary publications: The Conglomerate (1959-1975), Yoncopin yearbooks (1922-2011), college catalogs (1856-2010), alumni magazines (1969-1988), student literary magazines (Insights 1962-1967), and three books related to Centenary's history.
