Centenary ZTAs raise money for breast cancer awareness

SHREVEPORT, LA — The Centenary Beta Iota chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) is sponsoring the male beauty pageant "Big Man on Campus" November 2, 8:00 p.m. in Kilpatrick Auditorium. All proceeds from the event will benefit breast cancer education and awareness.

"Each of us holds this cause close to our hearts," said Centenary senior and ZTA Historian Courtney Cleveland. "We spend a great deal of our time not only raising money through fundraisers, but also through service, such as cooking meals for cancer survivors and volunteering at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure."

Twelve contestants will compete in five categories: Casual Wear, Southern State of Mind (formal), Swimwear, Talent, and On-Stage Question. The winner will be named "Big Man on Campus" and receive a $75 prize. A prize will also be awarded to the contestant chosen by the audience as "Mr. Charitable." Tickets for the event are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. A raffle will also be held during the pageant.

"Breast cancer impacts so many people throughout the world and many women could have received a better prognosis with early detection," said Cleveland. "My grandmother is a survivor, and I know that by working for this cause with ZTA, I will be passionate about it for the rest of my life."

Breast cancer awareness and education is ZTA's national philanthropy. The Centenary ZTAs also host an annual Think Pink Golf Tournament in the spring to fund breast cancer awareness and education.
