Centenary holds glove drive for Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary's Student Development division is collecting gloves to benefit the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission from November 26-December 7. Last year, Centenary partnered with the Rescue Mission to collect blankets in an effort to help those less fortunate in the community.

"So often during the winter months, individuals feel compelled to do something to support the many men, women, and children in our community who are without heat or shelter," said Reverend Valerie Robideaux, Director of Professional Discernment. "However, many people don't know how to respond to that desire. Centenary would like to offer this drive as a response and encourage the community to rally around this effort."

The Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission currently has a shortage of good gloves to hand out to people this winter. New or gently used gloves can be dropped off in the Smith Building foyer, Monday-Friday, November 26-December 7, 8:00-4:00 p.m. Reverend Robideaux believes that the glove drive not only benefits the less fortunate but the students involved in collection efforts:

"We feel it is important to recognize the needs of the community around us, proactively support them through programs like the rescue mission, and inspire students to think beyond self. This drive expresses the value Centenary places on compassion and encourages our students to become leaders in the work place, community, nation, and the world-at-large."

The glove drive will end December 7, at the Centenary Christmas Candlelight Service in Brown Memorial Chapel.
