Centenary first-year student receives golden ticket, travels to Hollywood for American Idol
SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary first-year student Christina Langston made it past the preliminary rounds of American Idol to travel to Hollywood for season 12 of the hit show.

"Ever since I was young, I have dreamed of the day that I would be able to perform in front of a large crowd with cheering fans that I could call my own," said Langston. "There I was—one girl up against thousands of contestants with the same purpose—receiving a golden ticket. Singing to the four celebrity judges, I knew that this was my chance to show both them and America that I am the next American Idol."
Langston did not have to wait long to hear those four words that everyone was anticipating: You're going to Hollywood!
"I cannot describe the excitement that overcame me that day," said Langston. "All I could think about was how blessed I was to have this amazing opportunity. Over the years, my family, friends, principals, and teachers have been so supportive of my career. They give me more confidence and help me further believe in myself."
Since arriving at Centenary in fall 2012, Langston has made herself a valued member of the Choir singing alto. She joined the Choir in their traditional Rhapsody in View performance as well as tours throughout Texas. Langston will finish out the 2012-13 academic year with the Choir on an international tour in Italy.
Langston notes that continuing her singing career is what brought her to Centenary:
"I did not want to give up on my singing career, and what better way to continue it than being a part of the Centenary College Choir—America's Singing Ambassadors. The Choir has further given me the opportunity to travel and share my voice along with the other amazing singers in choir. I have also appreciated the great amount of support I have received from Dr. David Rowe, Dr. David Hobson, and many other staff members here at Centenary."
See Langston compete in the Hollywood rounds by tuning into American Idol on Fox Wednesdays and Thursdays 8/7:00 p.m. central.
