"I am a New Orleans artist who is a native of Louisiana and paints interiors, landscapes and portraits in oils and watercolors," said Saxon. "I've been inspired by the work of John Singer Sargent, Vermeer, and Monet."

Saxon's use of paint reflects the influences of Caravaggio capturing her inspirations with a contemporary sensibility. She employs a tropical sense of place, and her love for tropical environments is easily seen in her paintings of the past few years.

Saxon studied traditional art at Louisiana Tech University and earned a bachelor of fine arts in painting from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1981. Following graduation, Saxon became a working artist in Lafayette, creating custom picture framing, designing jewelry, and painting murals. Most recently, she taught senior citizens watercolor painting at Lakeview Shepherd Center for three years following Katrina.

Saxon has exhibited her work in the 23rd Annual Delta Art Exhibition and the Artists Alliance Gallery at Festival International in Lafayette, LA. She was awarded the Color and Design Award in 2009. Saxon currently works out of her home studio in New Orleans, LA. For more information on Saxon and her art visit laurafischersaxon.com.

In a Tropical Light will be on view through April in the lobby of Magale Library during regularly scheduled library hours.
