Centenary College receives $1 million donation

SHREVEPORT, LA — President David Rowe announced today a $1 million donation by the Steger family, longtime supporters of the College. The gift will enable the establishment of the William E. Steger Centenary Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship and Free Enterprise.

"We are grateful to the Steger family for this incredible gift, which will have a profound impact on our students, faculty and this community," said Senior Director of Philanthropy Margo Shideler. "It will facilitate financial literacy programming for students from across majors, and will support educational activities for our students and the greater public."

The gift was given to honor the memory of Centenary alumnus Bill Steger, who graduated from the College in 1941 and went on to have a decorated career in the military and at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Recent significant gifts from the Steger family have also established the Steger Lecture Series at Centenary College, a discussion series educating students and community members on topics of finance and the free market system.

"This gift is representative of the love the Stegers have had for many years for Centenary College," said Executive Vice President Scott Rawles. "It also demonstrates the growing commitment of our supporters to Centenary's enduring purpose and continued strength."

The gift will endow a faculty position and an educational program, in the name of William E. Steger, in order to promote financial literacy and entrepreneurship among Centenary students.
