Centenary welcomes Dr. Bermingham to Hurley School of Music and Theatre Department

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary's Hurley School of Music and the Theatre Department recently announced that seasoned musical theatre performer and music director, Dr. Ron Bermingham, will be teaching voice and directing music theatre at Centenary, beginning this fall.

Dr. Bermingham studied at Arizona State University (M.A.), Indiana University, the University of British Columbia, the Université de Montréal (M.Mus.), and McGill University (Ph.D.). A regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions (Seattle) and gold medal winner at the Francisco Viñas International Voice Competition in Barcelona, Spain, Bermingham has sung with the Canadian Opera Company, Vancouver Opera, Edmonton Opera, and with opera companies in Belgium, France, Holland and Germany. Bermingham was an Assistant Chair of the Theatre Arts Department at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA/Riverfront), and headed NOCCA's Musical Theatre Division (2002-2005) until September 2005.

Bermingham is currently Director of Artistic Operations and Community Engagement at the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, and divides his studio time between students in Shreveport and New Orleans. Favorite roles played by Bermingham include Don Quixote (Man of LaMancha), Emile de Becque (South Pacific), and Lazar Wolf (Fiddler on the Roof), Colline (La Bohème), Don Alfonso (Cosi fan tutte), and the title role in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi.

Auditions for the May 2014 music theatre production directed by Dr. Bermingham will be held during the beginning of the fall semester, at a time to be announced.
