Faculty Q&A with Dr. Scott Chirhart

SHREVEPORT, LA — In February, 2013, Centenary received the honor of Top 25 Colleges with the Best Professors in the nation by CBS MoneyWatch. Students are the heartbeat of Centenary's campus—but it is the faculty and staff who build the caring and stimulating community that personalizes each student's experience. This Q&A is the first in a continuing series that will feature one faculty and one staff member each month.

Dr. Scott Chirhart, Associate Professor of Biology, has been on faculty at Centenary since 2003. He received his bachelor's degree in biology at Southwestern University and his doctorate of biology at Texas A&M University.

Q: Where did you grow up?

Temple, Texas

Q: What would students be most surprised to find out about you?

I make breakfast every weekend for my family.

Q: Most treasured Centenary memory?

I have three. Seniors asking me to give a "Last Lecture" before they graduated, receiving the Maroon Jacket Award, and the Pacesetter awards.

Q: What leader do you most admire?

I admire JFK, Ronald Regan, and Nelson Mandela.

Q: What's an item you still have on your bucket list?

I want to scuba the Great Barrier Reef and go to the Galapagos Islands.

Q: What is your goal this year?

To not get as stressed.

Q: What advice would you give your students?

To not become so invested in extracurriculars that your grades suffer.
