Holmes's Down the Rabbit Hole

Holmes worked primarily with oil and pastels before a seven-year hiatus. Since then, she has found herself examining her message, asking, "What do I want to say?" and "How do I want to say it?" This has led to a medium change for the artist, who now enjoys working with acrylic paints. Holmes's artist statement notes that the challenge of expressing her viewpoint has made her even more determined to see where her work takes her.

Born in Los Angeles, California, Holmes actually grew up in Starkville, Mississippi, and attended Mississippi State University. She graduated with a degree in social work, and she eventually moved with her husband to Texarkana, Texas. It was not until later in life Holmes became interested in art and started studying painters such as Charles Sovek, Kitty Wallis, Ken Auster, Bob Burridge, and Ann Templeton. She honed her painting abilities and found success in national oil and pastel exhibitions. Holmes has also had an award-winning work printed in the Pastel Journal.

Holmes's paintings are collected by individuals and corporations throughout the nation, and she has recently been accepted into national shows. Last year, she participated in the New Texas Talent in Dallas.
