Christian Leadership Center hosts "C. S. Lewis: The Life and Legacy" series

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary's Christian Leadership Center is celebrating C. S. Lewis, an iconic figure in 20th Century Christianity, with a special series, "C. S. Lewis: The Life and Legacy" November 4-16. The Christian Leadership Center hopes to honor Lewis and commemorate the 50th anniversary of his death by hosting a film, panels, discussions, and a prayer retreat to examine the many facets of his life and works.

"We believe C. S. Lewis is a figure that brings people together across denominational circles—that's why we took the opportunity to create this series," said Maegan Daigle, Assistant Director of the Christian Leadership Center.

Born in 1898, Lewis was arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. Lewis wrote more than 30 books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia series has sold over 100 million copies and been transformed into three major motion pictures.

Monday November 4, 7 p.m. in Kilpatrick Auditorium: 
Viewing and Q&A of The Life and Faith of CS Lewis: The Magic Never Ends documentary

Narrated by Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley, this multi-award-winning program is the most complete portrait of the world-renowned author considered by many to be the greatest Christian writer of the 20th century. Dr. Peter Huff and Jennifer Strange will provide a "Lewis Q&A" after the documentary.

Tuesday November 5, 7 p.m. in the Whited Room: 
Lewis of Christendom: Model of the Thinking Christian lecture by
 Dr. Peter Huff
Only a half-century after his death, C. S. Lewis now belongs to the universal Christian heritage. Millions venerate him as an "ecumenical saint." This lecture portrays him as a "doctor of the church." It especially highlights the enduring relevance of his dynamic sense of intellectual vocation. Still the apostle to skeptics and missionary to the unimaginative, Lewis of Christendom is patron of all who would dare to love God with the whole mind.

Wednesday, November 6, noon in Smith 108: Brown Bag Book Club

Bring your lunch and books to discuss "Lewis and Love" featuring Till We Have Faces and The Four Loves with The Horse and His Boy. Participants are encouraged to attend even if they have not read every book. Jennifer Strange and Myles Roberts will lead the community conversation.

Tuesday, November 12, 7 p.m. in the Whited Room: Panel on Mere Christianity

"Mere is always a dangerous word," CS Lewis wrote in The Four Loves. Yet his Mere Christianity quickly became a beloved classic for people interested in the Christian faith. How does that "mere Christianity" sit with us now? Hear different voices respond to Lewis's classic apologetic: Reverend Daniel Hixon, serving four United Methodist churches in Jena, Louisiana; Reverend Alston B. Johnson, Dean of St. Mark's Cathedral in Shreveport; Dr. Lee Morgan, Professor Emeritus of Centenary College of Louisiana and member of First Presbyterian Church in Shreveport; Father David Richter, Pastor of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church of Monroe; Myles Roberts, Staff Pastor for HUB Urban Ministry and Minister of Music and Media for Springs of Grace Baptist Church in Shreveport; and Dr. Ross Smith, Associate Professor of Music at Centenary College of Louisiana and Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Shreveport.
