Centenary welcomes Brigadier General Joanne Sheridan to Veterans Day Tribute

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College will celebrate the lives and dedication of veterans during the Veterans Day Tribute on Monday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. in the Hurley Music Building's Anderson Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Louisiana native Brigadier General Joanne Sheridan of the Louisiana National Guard will deliver the keynote address. Sheridan serves as the principal military advisor to the Adjutant General of the State of Louisiana. She became the first woman to ascend to the general officer rank in the state's National Guard, to command a battalion, and to helm a major command when she led the 61st Troop Command.

"Centenary is committed to serving veterans and their families year-round," said Scott Rawles, Executive Vice President. "We are honored that Brigadier General Joanne Sheridan has chosen to commemorate Veterans Day with Centenary this year. She serves as a leader not only in her command but also in the community and state."

The program will also include music by the Centenary Choir Ensemble; words by Dr. Lee Morgan, Emeritus Professor; taps by student Christopher Cates, and a reading of the Presidential Veterans Day Proclamation by Yellow Ribbon students.

The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides a portion of tuition expenses, then both Centenary College and the Department of Veteran Affairs contribute funds to ensure eligible post-9/11 veterans or their dependents attend Centenary tuition free.
