Centenary names Dr. Karen Soul as interim Provost

SHREVEPORT, LA — Dr. Karen Soul, Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, has been named the interim Provost and Dean of Centenary College of Louisiana.

"We are thankful to Dr. Soul for bringing experience and enthusiasm to this role," said David Rowe, Centenary President. "With more than 10 years of experience at Centenary, Dr. Soul has a notable record of academic and administrative success on campus. Her guidance will be an invaluable asset for the College during this time of transition."

Soul first came to Centenary in 2003 as an instructor in the education department. From there she climbed the ranks to Associate Professor, Education Department Chairperson, Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and most recently, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs in 2012.

Prior to her time at Centenary, Soul was an elementary and middle school educator and an instructor at the College of Education and Human Services Professions of the University of Minnesota. She earned a B.A.S. in elementary education and an M.Ed. with a concentration in language arts at the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. at the University of Texas.

Dr. Mike Hemphill previously acted as Provost and Dean for almost four years. Soul will serve until a new provost has been named.
