Centenary Archives presents "The Presence of African-Americans at Centenary"

SHREVEPORT, LA — The Centenary College Archives and Special Collections presents its new exhibit, The Presence of African-Americans at Centenary, 1871-1965. The exhibit includes material about African-Americans at Centenary prior to the school's integration of the student body in 1966. The items on display relate to stories about employment, interracial dialogues, and even racist controversies in the segregated South.

The exhibit is on display in Centenary's Whited Room lobby of Bynum Commons from January through March 2014. It is also accessible online at centenary.edu/archives.

Centenary's Archivist, Chris Brown, will discuss the exhibit on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at 11:10 a.m. in Centenary's Whited Room. This will be followed by a convocation lecture led by Dr. Lee Morgan, Professor Emeritus of English at Centenary. The event takes place as part of Centenary's Dream Week 2014, a celebration of the legacy and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
